sally man, Diane airbus and Anton corbijn

Sally mann

Sally Mann is an american photographer best known for her black and white photographs starting off with children and then later focusing on landscapes linking to decay and death. Her images are very soft and flattering however some people have had different opinions towards theses images as some people feel they are wrong and shameful as the children are  behaving as if they are adults such as the image where the little girl is smoking as this is not natural behavior for a girl her age. I love all these images as i love the elegance and softness of them and how they are all almost dream like, personally i think these images are beautiful as she has focused on some sensitive subjects yet she has made them look elegant and softened the issue of in the image. I also love the tonal ranges in these image.

Dianne Arbus

Dianne Arbus was an american photographer born in 1923 she is most famous for taking images of people who the public view as being surreal such as dwarfs, giants, transgender people, nudist and circus performers. She first started out doing fashion and advertising photography with her husband at the time and her work even appeared in vogue. In the late 50's she began to focus on her own photography. Her images had a raw quality to them. I really like her work as it shows surrealism however it's reality.I also like how they show things we don't see everyday. These images are very unique and probably moments you will never be able to catch again. These image also show a sense of confidence and pride as these people are not ashamed to be who they are and to let the world know who they are. I think the contrast and tones of these images are amazing as they have very dark shadows and good strong  highlights. her images are also quite grainy which i like as this adds to the realness of the image.

Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn is a dutch photographer, music video director and film director born in 1955, he first used his fathers camera for photos of pop group called solutions in 1972 and he became hooked on photographing music instantly. He went on to photographs great music legends such as David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and U2 and Nirvana. I do like these images as they soft and high contrast the blacks are very dark and yet they are soft and the details almost vanishes creating almost a cartoon look. They are all staged shots that appear candid.
