 Annie Leibovitz

Born on October 2nd 1949 Annie Leibovitz is an american photographer from Connecticut.During the 1970's she took at job with the rolling stones magazine and in 1983 went on to work for the magazine Vanity Fair. In the late 1980's she started working for a number of high profile advertising campaigns. From the 1990's to now she has been publishing and exhibiting her work. She is widely know as one of the best american portrait photographers and i can see this by looking at her work, Her work i feel is so strong and powerful and have  theatrical element to them. All the images i have chosen here the subject is looking directly into the camera and there eyes are lit up i this plays a big part in making the images strong, although facial expression in all these images appear strong the images there selves are very soft and the skin in all the models appear soft and smooth and a almost out of focus affect on some. I really like these images as they are staged but appear candid by the way they are looking at the camera they eyes are the main focus point in all these images. All these images have the same expression which is very  neutral yet all the emotion is portrayed in the eyes.

Bettina Von Zwehl

She in an German photographer who lives and works in London she started taking photos by using a 19th century system working on an 8X10 large format camera. Most of this work is done in a studio. I like these images as she has taken and old method and made it new or put a modern twist to it by using cameos in some of her work,I like the way she has used babies with this method so they appear bigger than they actually are. I really like the cameo shots as they show an importance to the image or the person as they are the central and only focus in the image it is simple yet effective, I love the way the images are lit to as she has used Rembrandt in the image to make it highlight part of the face i love how the side of her face which is lit the wall behind her is very dark and the side of her face where the face is dark the wall is light as this shows contrast and opposites.

David Chanelllor

Was a photojournalism and documentary photographer who is based in south Africa. he has worked for magazines such as national geographic. He has took the title of "Nikon photographer of the year three times. He also won Sony world photography in the category nature and wildlife. I really like these images as they are so soft and so flattering the lighting in all these images are amazing as you can tell he has really thought about it in his photos. I like the 3rd image especially as i love the light coming from the right on his face and the serious candid expression on his face. The depth of field is also amazing in this photo as it is focused on David Attenborough, he is very sharp in the image and the background is very soft however the image as a whole is very soft.

Richard Learoyd

Is from Lancashire England and graduated from the Glasgow school of art in fine art and photography in 1990. His work was done by using film however his work has no negative as this was done using large format camera. I love the focus points of these images how they are so sharp yet the part out of focus is so soft, this could not be done on a normal DSLR as you could not pick such a precise section to focus on. these are such crisp images yet they are so flattering. All his images are very similar yet they are unique in there own way. All the feeling in these images are portrayed in the eyes as they all have a spark in them. This is the case in all his images. I find all these images so flattering and beautiful in a way as they show real human beings and they have no sign of manipulation or even make up on the women in the images. These images are naturally beautiful.

Rineke Dijksrta

Rineke is an dutch photographer who lives and works in Amsterdam,She usually does her work in series looking at groups such as adolescences and soldiers. I really like these images as they are crisp and all of them have a blue tone to them this gives the image almost a calming feeling to them as these are quite relaxing and calming images as they are staged but the expressions look so natural and candid. These are beautiful images in my opinion they so adolescence and growing up and becoming mature. I like the way all her images the subject is looking directly into the camera this gives the image more feeling and a bit more seriousness to the image. I especially like the series she did of boys who were going off to the army and then photographed them when they were in the army or had come out as i really like seeing the difference and the way she has focused on the concept of them going from a boy to a man and i feel some people could view these images as quite emotional.

Samuel Fosso

Samuel Fosse is a Cameroonian photographer who has worked for most of his career in Central Africa Republic who does self portraits where he creates himself as people he is as being iconic in history.I really like these images as i like the way he really does look like a different person in each image and even though they are self portraits they are still composed and shot perfectly. These images could  be seen as a tribute to these people as he perceives them as icon. These images are very real but also surreal in a way as they are not the actual people but a very good interpretation of them. They are very strong images.

Shadi Ghadirian

Was born in 1974 in Iran, she studied photography at university in Tehran. These images here look at women identity and the preconceptions of women in the Islamic state. I do not really like these images physically however i do like the message getting across as it is about how Islamic women really only have the purpose of staying home and looking after the house, These images i think are a bit too plain and simple however it does get the message across well.

Tim Noble and Sue Webster

Tim Noble born in 1966 and Sue Webster born in 1967 are British artist  who work as a duo to produce fine art sculptures and then create shadows by lighting these sculptures. They both studied a fine art degree at university. They moved to Bradford and started creating these sculptures these would be made from dead animals to rubbish to sex toys, I think these are really interesting as images as they are so surreal and i think it is just amazing how they have created these beautiful silhouettes out of these not so pretty object. These are very creative images and you can see there has been a lot of thought into these images to make the very real looking shadows of the people.
