sunny 16

The basic guide to photography exposure is very simple. If you have a bright, sunny day, then use f-stop 16 for your camera lens aperture. The shutter speed should then be set to the equivalent of your ISO film speed – or the next number over. For example, if you are using an ISO film speed of 100, your shutter speed should be set to 1/125. More than often, your shutter speed number will be higher than the ISO film speed, but it is simply easier to remember that film speed equals shutter speed.

here we looked at using the sunny 16 rule to determine are settings this was first done by looking at the weather and think about what settings are appropriate and going up and down stops if the images are over or under exposed. we went around Nottingham and looked at different places with different lighting situations. Our start settings were F8 1/125 and a ISO 400 as it was quite a cloudy day. This was a good exposure until I needed to shoot more of the sky as it washed the sky out a lot I went up 2 stops and this gave the result I needed.

Here we shot in a church as was I completely different lighting condition than outside it was very dark and the only main source of light was the big stain glass windows. we need a really high iso for the church as like I said it was very dark so that way set to 3200 we also took are aperture down to 5.6 as this was appropriate  for the lighting conditions. We also looked at using a smaller aperture so we just got the details of the stained glass window this was shot at f.9.

here we looked at shooting path with a wall this was really good shot when it came composition. we started at again with f8 1/125 and iso 400 however as this quite an open area my images came out over exposed so I went down stop with my aperture till I got the image how I wanted which was to have detail all around this was achieved by using the setting iso 200 1/125 and f.11

I shot the brian clough statue as and started again with f.8 1/125 and iso 400 however this was abit under exposed so I change went up stops to 6.3 and change by shutter speed to 1/1000 of a second and iso 200.
